The cheetah is adapted in almost every way to maximize speed.

From non-retractable claws and special pads to increase traction, to light bones and a tail designed to act as a rudder in tight turns, the cheetah's spring-like movements propel it at speeds of up to 114 kilometres (71 miles) per hour.
